So I put an email out to my homegirls about which apps I should add to the Droid. Kel sent a few suggestions and Dal sent a couple, but Mi went the extra mile! She asked her pal Olivia (a Droid junkie) for a list, and these are her suggestions (with commentary):
- The Weather Channel (multi-location monitoring, hour by hour, 10-day forecasts.)
- AK notepad (Just let's you record notes)
- RedBoxer (not free, but if you use the red box, a must have. Let's you reserve movies from your phone.)
- Pandora (lets you stream new music to your phone. Great for car trips.)
- Twidroid (If you're on twitter, this is a must-have)
- Backgrounds (Let's you choose pretty graphics and photos for the background.)
- HelixLauncher (A home page replacement app that lets you have up to 7 home screens. Also has slightly more modern look.)
- TouchDown (It's a $20 app, but she has to use it to get her work e-mail.)
- E! Online (Great for when you need to fill 10 minutes.)
- Color Flashlight (tuns your phone into a flash light, also has neat options like making it a strobe light or a candle)
- Digital Clock Widget (a nicer looking clock than what comes standard on the phone.)
- Abduction
- Blow Up Lite
- Dots n Boxes
- Labyrinth Lite
- Paper Toss
Mi, who is an iPhone gal, "loves":
Hipstamatic, Lo-Mob, Pandora, Slacker, Bing Music, Flixster, Blockbuster, IMDB, Wikipedia, Dragon Dictation, Bump, NPR News, Convert Units, Flashlight, Shop Lucky, QVC, USPS Mobile, TripCase, Southwest, pic2shop, ShopSavvy, TagReader, Epicurious, Food Network, AllRecipes, Starbucks, Whole Foods, Mixology, RunKeeper, Virtual Trainer, Crossfit Daily, Off leash (a cool dog park app)
She's not sure which ones "crossover" to the Droid (we'll save that for another day), but her final e-mail comment made me feel all warm inside:
"My friends who have Droids love them about as much as everyone I know that have iPhones."
It's official: Mi is a rock star, and my confidence in the technology-selection arena is sky high!
